StrataBox: Rock Collection
Catalog every specimen: photo, streak, Mohs, crystal system. Log find sites and trips, fill display cases, then print cut-out labels for the whole collection.
Download on theApp StoreStrataBox is a private catalog for the rocks, minerals, and fossils you actually collect: every specimen with its photo, its ID marks, its find site, and a museum-style catalog number assigned the moment you save it.
Record a specimen the way a rockhound identifies one: colour, streak, luster, Mohs hardness down to the half step, crystal system, size, and weight. Search finds it all, accents included, and the type chips split minerals, rocks, fossils, gem material, and meteorites.
The field log keeps your spots the way your notebook never quite did. Each site carries its region, its kind (quarry, creek, roadcut, mine dump), copyable coordinates, and the access notes that matter: fees, gates, who to call. Log every trip with the day's conditions and your notes, and StrataBox lines up the haul under it automatically: same site, same day, no bookkeeping.
Display cases mirror your real shelf: the glass cabinet, the riker mounts, the office shelf. Each case shows its fill against capacity, and placing or pulling a stone is two taps. The want list keeps the hunt organized from grail to someday, each mineral with its classic locality and the budget you promised yourself. Found one? Mark it found and the catalog entry opens prefilled.
Stats add the collection up honestly: pieces by type, additions by month, your spread across the Mohs scale, and the sites that produce.
Three practical tools make the opening catalog more useful. Label Readiness checks whether each printable label has a name, catalog number, and locality. Display Rotation suggests off-display pieces from kinds that are less represented on the shelf, without moving anything automatically. Field Trip Recap brings each recent site's conditions, notes, and same-day haul together.
And then the part your display shelf has been waiting for: printable specimen labels. Cut-out display labels with the name, catalog number, locality, and collection date, 18 to a page with trim lines, printed per case or for the whole collection.
