RoofPitch is a fast, no-nonsense roof calculator for framers, roofers, and anyone re-roofing their
own house. Enter a slope any way you have it, and read back every other form of it right away.

WHAT IT DOES
- Pitch from rise and run, in the same unit, either measurement system.
- Every form of the slope at once: x-in-12 pitch, angle in degrees, and percent grade.
- Common rafter length from your span and pitch, with ridge shortening and the overhang tail worked in.
- Hip and valley rafter lengths, using the correct 45 degree plan diagonal, plus the hip angle.
- Roof area, roofing squares, and the shingle bundles to order, with your own waste allowance.
- A live cross-section that gets steeper as the pitch does, so the picture always matches the numbers.
- Metric or imperial throughout: feet and inches, or metres and centimetres.

Calculate roof pitch from rise and run

RoofPitch converts a measured slope into pitch, angle and percent grade. Keep rise and run in the same unit before using the result for a roof estimate.

Measure rise and run
Rise is the vertical change; run is the horizontal distance for that change. Enter both in the same unit. A rise of 6 over a run of 12 is a 6-in-12 pitch and a 50 percent grade.
Review the slope
Read the pitch, angle and percent grade together. RoofPitch supports metric and imperial measurements, and its live cross-section follows the pitch.
Estimate rafters and materials with Pro
Use span and pitch for common rafter length, including ridge shortening and the overhang tail. Pro also includes hip and valley rafter lengths, roof area, roofing squares and shingle bundles with your waste allowance.

Common questions

Can I use metric measurements for roof pitch?

Yes. RoofPitch supports metric and imperial measurements. Rise and run must use the same unit for a valid slope calculation.

Does RoofPitch calculate hip and valley rafters?

The Pro tools include hip and valley rafter lengths using a 45-degree plan diagonal, plus the hip angle. Check that this assumption matches your roof geometry before using the estimate.
